In the method comparing study, the samples of plant origin used were water-spike, sommon nettle, garden sorrel and red currants. Of the samples of animal origin, milk and beef were used to determine their potassium content by flame photometric and gamma-spectrometric methods. All the determinations were carried out in 5 parallels. In the flame-photometric test, 0.500 g ash were measured into a beaker of 100 ml and 20 ml 1:4 dilution of nitric acid were added. The beaker was covered and allowed to stand overnight. The next day the sample was transferred into a 100 ml volumetric flask and made up to mark with twice-distilled water. Two ml of the sample were diluted to 50 ml with twice-distilled water, and this was sprayed in the flame of the photometer. The gamma spectrometric measurements were carried out with samples taken from ash and carried through 2 different measuring systems (high-resolution and scintillation). The results were evaluated by analysis of variance. As seen from the results, all 3 methods are suitable for the determination of 40K. In determining the potassium content for analytical purposes, the scintillation gamma-spectrometric method gives the best results.
