The monograph was elaborated on the basis of long-term investigations on legume-grass mixtures carried out in the years 1986-01. The performed investigations revealed that, from the point of view of the level and quality of crop, the optimal proportion of leguminous plants in the mixture sward should not be smaller than 30 percent. The maintenance of at least 30 percent share of legumes in the sward allows reducing: - the dose of nitrogen fertilization to 30-40 kg/ha per regrowth in the main year of utilization, - nitrogen fertilization to the first regrowth in the second year of utilization.
