The effect of split dressing with N and the date of its application on oats panicles development, flower fertility and kernel development was studied in a pot experiment. N at the rates of 1.6-2.4 g/pot influenced positively the following oats characteristics: total number of spikelets, number of fertile spikelets, number of kernels in one spikelet and in one panicle, and in consequence, the grain yield. Too high N doses (3.2-4.0 g/pot) had a negative influence on these characteristics. The increased oats fertility by N fertilization was mainly a result of higher number of spikelets in panicle and higher number of fertile spikelets.
