A total of 50 samples of rice seeds were collected from the warehouses in Laguna [Philippines] during Dec 1987-Nov 1988. The samples were studied for their fungal contamination, moisture content, germinability, and production of abnormal seedlings. The results indicated the influence of storage period on the viability of the seeds. The common abnormalities encountered during the standard germination test were: absence of roots, thick, thin, short, or long and decayed roots; absence of coleoptile, short, and deformed or decayed coleoptiles.
