Hemoglobin concentration and weight gains from birth to 21 days old were investigated in piglets after iron treatment in the form of : injectable iron-dextran (A); 1 does (200 mg.) at birth (B); 1 dose (200 mg.) + Vit. B12 (1 cc.) at birth (C); 2 doses (100 mg. each) at birth and 14 days old; oral ferric ammonium citrate from birth to weaning (D); Neovit 20 R (E), Neovit C R. Four repeated experiments were shown that no significant difference was observed among A, B and C groups at 21 days old. But hemoglobin levels at 14 days old was lower significantly (P < 0.05) in C group than A and B groups. Oral iron treatments can prevent anemia; and their hemoglobin levels and weight gains were comparable between D and E groups. No difference of results was observed between injectable and oral iron treatments. From this experiment, we suggest that single injectable iron-dextran with 200 mg. at birth is a preferable form to give a good result and a convenient practice in farm.
