A total number of 485 pedigree mares and 254 breeding stallions from 6 breeding studs and 2 stallion herds in Poznan province was evaluated. The indices and mean body conformation characteristics for horses of Wielkopolska breed were calculated. It was found that this population of horses was very differentiated in their pedigree and in exterior and utility type. The own author's method of evaluation of jumping ability of colts, based on the scoring the free jumps of colts, gives a possibility for a constant verification of this trait. The correlation coefficients between the jumping ability of colts 1 and 2 years old are significant.
