Biosynthesis and biodegradation of alfatoxin B1 and G1 on maize contaminated with common field and storage fungi.

The quantitative relationship between mold biomass and aflatoxins B1 and G1 on solid substrates (whole and crushed maize grain) was examined. The experiment was carried out with the mold Aspergillus parasiticus NRRL 2999 in pure and in mixed culture media, the latter mixed with the molds Trichothecium roseum ZMTF 1226 and Fusarium sp. ZMTF 1215. It was observed that biosynthesis of the examined toxins and their ratio did not depend directly on the growth of the biomass but rather on the temperature of cultivation. The biomass of the mixed culture media reduced the amounts of aflatoxins B1 and G1 by 22-45% and 36-48% respectively, after 42 days of cultivation. The decrease of both toxins was more pronounced in the substrate with a higher initial moisture content and at a higher temperature of cultivation.
