Nutrient analysis system. Version 2.0.
1983
The Nutrient Analysis System (NAS) computes the nutrient content of meals, recipes, and one or more days of dietary intake data. Codes corresponding to foods consumed are first identified from the approximately 1700 food database listed in the documentation, then entered into the computer. A printout compares the user's data with the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), or USRDA for 16 nutrients; provides the nutrient content of each food entered; and lists the foods which contain the most fat, sodium, and cholesterol. USDA Home and Garden Bulletin No. 72 serves as the core the NAS database and is supplemented with food and nutrient information from a variety of other sources. The user can expand or modify the existing database.
