Effect of rooting media and node number on the growth and tuber yield of white yam (Dioscorea rotundata) cuttings.
1977
Adu Baffour A.
The effect of environment, rooting media, and node number on vine cuttings of white yam grown in a greenhouse and in a glasschamber using fine sand, coarse sand, vermiculite and water as the rooting media is reported. The glasschamber provided better conditions for growth with regards to number of rooted cuttings, rootlength, earliness in rooting, number of shooted cuttings and tuber yield per cutting. Significant increases in the number of rooted cuttings rootlength, earliness in rooting, number of shooted cuttings and tuber yield per cutting. Significant increases in the number of rooted cuttings as well as the weight of tubers per cutting were observed with increase in the number of nodes. Water provided the best rooting medium even though most of the rooted cuttings in water did not produce shoots.
