[Grading-up local horses with Thoroughbred in Indonesia]. [English]
1989
Komar S.B.
Local horses were bred with Thoroughbred horses at Pamulang Horses Stable, on August 1987 to November 1987. Good horses in Indonesia are needed for horse racing or even horsemanship. The purpose was to have the third generation of the local marehorses and thoroughbred stallion horses. Problems came up such as the grading up breeding system was implemented to be the basic system on every stable in Indonesia. The observation hopefully can get a "new" information on horse breeding. The first generation is called G1 with its local characteristics as dominant and its height around 1.56 metres. Meanwhile the second generation from the mare G1 and thoroughbred stallion with its height 1.60 metres and better appearance than G1. The third generation of the G2 and thoroughbred stallion has characteristics close to the thoroughbred. The G1 horse of the thoroughbred mare and the local stallion has a better breeding than local mare and thoroughbred stallion, but in this case it was not seen exactly, if the G1 generation has a local blood or thoroughbred blood.
