Black poplar clone variability of stoma numbers and sizes on the leaves of two-year seedlings depending on soil properties.

Variability of seedling growth and number and size of stomata was researched in a field multiclonal experiment on two-year seedlings of nine selected poplar clones of the following taxonomy: seven clones of Populus deltoides and two clones of Populus x euramericana. Along the length of the sample plot, three micro-relief forms can be distinguished: a very sandy bed (fluvisol) and a markedly more clayey micro-depression (humofluvisol), which are connected by a transitional slope. Significant inter-clonal differences of the researched parameters have been observed, as well as different reactions of the clones, which points to marked clonal specificities in reaction norm, depending on the site, i.e., different adaptabilities of the selected genotypes of black poplar.
