Caracterizacion de los suelos sedimentarios marinos de la octava region y su relacion con el crecimiento de Pinus radiata D. Don.

Characteristics of Sedimentary Marine soils of Chile and their sites with radiata pine plantation were studied. The soil were characterized and simple and multiple correlations of sites variables and growth were made. Soils of clay texture, bulk density around 1 g/cc, low amount of available water and poor in nutrients levels (N, P, K, Ca) was found. Silt content and Available Water of lower portion of soil (30-90 cm) was correlated positively with Site Index (SI) of Radiata pine, and Elevation (m.a.s.l.) do it negatively. The annual average growth heigth (MAI) of young plantation was significatively correlated with pH and texture of upper portion of soil (0-30 cm). Finally, models to estimate Radiata pine growth with variables as Elevation, Silt, Clay and Calcium were derived.
