Baseline information on sweetpotato cultivation after rice were gathered from four districts, through interviews with farmers, members of farm organizations, consumers, assemblers and traders by an interdisciplinary group of researchers. The information included production, post-production and socio-economic factors that influence postrice sweetpotato cultivation. Based on the findings, the following conclusions and recommendations were made: 1) adoption of improved technologies is needed to increase productivity, 2) a study on pests and diseases is warranted, 3) there is a need for a continuous program on variety development, 4) the possibility of processing sweetpotato must be explored, 5) other agencies like the Department of Education should be involved in a program on propagation of planting materials, and 6) postharvest studies to prevent losses should also be undertaken.
