Cultivation status and characteristics of the jujube (Zizyphus jujuba) cultivating soils in the chief producing district of yeongnam area.

To obtain the basic information on the establishment of the orchard utilizing mountainous area and idle land, the field survey on the present status and characteristics of jujube cultivated soils was carried out. The acreage of the jujube orchard per a farm was about 5,330m** (2), the number of trees were about 340 stocks and planting density was about 15m** (2)(3.6 x 4.1m). The average ages of the tree were about 13.4 years and number of chemical spraying per year to prevent the Mycoplasma disease was about 2.7 times. The motive of planting jujube tree, the 80 farms surveyed resulted that about 40% of the total was planted for better prospect of the income expected, about 30% was for labor saving sakes while about 27.5% was followed by the trend of neighbor. The countermeasures against Mycoplasma disease were that about 52.5% of the total was spraying chemicals, and about 40% was pulled out the infected trees and replanting nursery sapling. Out of the total extent (181.7ha) of the jujube orchards in the 4 surveyed districts, about 42% was distributed on alluvial plains, about 23% on Mt. foot-slopes and about 22% on valleys and fans. The distributions of the jujube cultivated soils according to the surface gradient, about 65% of the total extent located less than 7% of slopes and about 29% situated between 7-30% of slopes.
