Suppresion of clubroot on cabbage by soil solarization [Philippines].
1990
Milagrosa S.P. | Reithmacher G.W.
Increase in soil temperature as a result of covering the soil with transparent plastic mulches was associated with reduced clubroot incidence on cabbage grown in three locations of the experiment. Weight of cabbage head was significantly increased in plots that were solarized compared to the untreated plots. The highest mean weight was recorded in plots with lime + solarization followed by the treatments with solarization. Plots treated with lime alone also reduced the clubroot infection but not significantly different in treatments with solarization alone. The mean number of heads formed in untreated plots were significantly lower than in plots treated with lime + solarization and water + lime + solarization. Solarization + lime + water enhanced greater number of heads harvested as well as heavier heads indicating that this combination can effectively reduce clubroot infection.
