Study of eight agronomic characters in corn under two environments.

This paper deals mainly with studies of three main problems to consider in the experiments under two completely different ecological environments. These are (1) the average performances of 8 characters of 21 single cross combinations, (2) interactions of genotypes with locations, (3) interactions of general and specific combining ability with locations. The results of tests indicated that the differences between the location mean of characters exceeded the values required for significance at the 0.01 level except the weight of 100 kernel, effective accumulated temperature (EAT) from planting to maturing and plant height. The mean squares of genotypes and their interactions with locations exceeded the values required for significance at the 0.01 level. The mean squares of the general and specific combining ability and their interactions with the locations also exceeded the values required for significance at 0.01 level. In the overall genotypic variation of the population the general combining ability was more important than the specific except the grain forming period. And in the interaction of genotype with location, the interactions of general combining ability with location were more important than specific combining ability with locations, but except the weight of 100 kernel, EAT to silk and kernel rows.
