anglais. Horses have always been considered "different" from the other domestic animals. Raised for various purposes (work, sport, meat and even milk), these animals have a symbolic, cultural and sentimental character. However, these aspects often clash with economic purposes and production requirements. Further and deeper studies are necessary as regards horse genetics since, due to the high costs of such researches, there is a lack of structured studies and sometimes even terminology used differs from country to country. Among the researches presently carried out on, attention is to be given to the studies on the redefinition of the concept of breed and those on the coat colours.

Allevati per vari scopi (lavoro, sport, produzione di carne e anche latte), questi animali hanno un valore simbolico, culturale e sentimentale. Comunque, questi aspetti spesso si scontrano con le necessita' e gli scopi economici e produttivi. Sono necessari studi approfonditi di genetica dal momento che, a causa dell'elevato costo di queste ricerche, mancano studi strutturati e a volte anche la terminologia varia da paese a paese. Tra le ricerche attualmente in corso, si deve porre attenzione agli studi sulla ridefinizione del concetto di razza e a quelli sui colori del mantello].
