Correlations among more important agronomic traits in two maize composites.

Vancetovic J. | Drinic G.
The results obtained showed that the highest correlation was detected between grain yield and ear length in S1 families and between grain yield and 1000-kernel weight in HS families in both composites. Indirect selection for grain yield over some other trait would be purposeless except for HS selection over 1000-kernel weight increase in Composite M. Genetic correlations between S1 and HS families were the lowest for grain yield in both composites, though this value was higher in Composite M. This points to either higher similaruty of allele frequencies between the two types of families for grain yield in Composite M, or to a greater share of additive variance in the total genetic variance for grain yield in relation to Composite B.
