A sticky polybutene barrier and 3 pyrethroid insecticides were tested as trunk bands to prevent the infestation of fruits with eggs of the weevil. In bioassay trials, the polybutene was the most effective, giving up to 100 percent exclusion; but in the field the insecticide lambdacyhalothrin was the only treatment to reduce the number of eggs laid in fruit calices (as distinct from the number of adults in the canopy, which was reduced by all treatments).
