The effect of pure and bioactivated sodium azide on the rooster ejaculate of RIR breed on indices of hatching capacity (non-fertilized ovum, embryonal mortality, hatching capacity and a rate of sex), laying performance (laying for 300 days, percentage of shell eggs, of injured eggs, mortality of hens and body weight in the age of 6 months) in hybrid hens was investigated. Sodium azide (in both forms) did not influence the values of basic indices of hatching capacity and production. The strongest inhibition effect had pure sodium azide. It reduced values of all indices of hatching capacity as well as the most important index, the laying. The differences between the experimental groups were low and non-significant, except for hatching capacity and laying. The rate of sex was not significantly influenced.
