Row spacing study on two wheat varieties under rainfed conditions.

A field study was conducted to determine the optimum row spacing for two wheat varieties (Kohsar-92 and Mairaj-93) under rained conditions during the year 1992-93 at the Barani Agriculture College, Rawalpindi. The row spacings tested were 15, 22.5, 30 and 37.5 cm apart. Plant height was greater at narrowest row spacing (15 cm) whereas values for spike length and heads m-2 were greater at wider row spacing. The other parameters like number of grains spike-1, weight of grains spike-1, 1000 grain weight and harvest index were not affected by row spacings. Highest grain and straw yields were obtained from the narrowest row spacing and yields decreased by increasing row spacing. Both the varieties under study showed similar response to row spacing treatments for grain yield.
