The objective of the study was clay fraction (lower than 0.002 mm) isolated from each genetic horizon of three typical brown soils selected from Wielkopolska Lowland. Soils were formed from glacial till of Wisla glaciation and Warta glaciation. On the base of X-ray diffraction analysis it was stated that illite is dominant clay mineral in the investigated soils. Chlorite-types minerals were in the range 12-15 percent and smectite in the range 9-14 percent. Significant amounts of interstratified minerals illite-smectite and chlorite-smectite were detected. The content of kaolinite was in the range 4-8 percent. In some horizons, where gleyic process occurred, lepidocrocite was present.
