Perennial ryegrass + meadow fescue, perennial ryegrass + meadow fescue + white clover, pure white clover were sown in a lysimetrin experiment begun in 1994. At 40 and 80 cm ground water levels both mixtures were N fertilized at annual rates 60 and 180 kg/ha, while pure clover 0 kg/ha on the background of 90 kg phosphorus oxide/ha and 100 kg potassium oxide/ha. Effect of white clover in the sward on mineral N contents in soil and in ground water is being studied. Higher nitrate concentrations either in soil and ground water were observed under grass/white clover mixture and pure white clover than under grass mixture.
