Groups of Booroola X South Australian Merino ewes were inseminated at a synchronised oestrus, and treated with controlled-release progesterone dispensers for periods of between 4 and 14 days, beginning at 4, 7 or 11 days after ovulation. Concentrations of peripheral progesterone increased in most treated groups. There were no significant differences in pregnancy rates between groups. The number of foetuses per pregnancy was however increased by treatments starting on day 4, and for all treated groups compared with the untreated control.
