Problems related to the feeding of high-yielding dairy cows, particularly the meeting of energy and protein requirements investigated. In order to increase the energy efficiency of a ration without compromising the intensity of the microbial activity, the energy cost of microbial protein synthesis should be reduced. In other words, there should be a higher ratio between synthesized protein and ATP produced in the rumen . The authors discuss the various methods used working towards this end.
