Effect of seedling age, planting density and number of seedlings per hill on the yield and yield components of late transplanted aman rice [in Bangladesh].

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during July-December, 1987 to find out the optimum age of seedling, number of seedlings per hill and hill distance of Nigersail rice under late transplanted condition. The treatments were two levels of seedling age (30 and 60 day old seedlings), three levels of number of seedlings per hill (2, 4 and 6 seedlings) and three levels of hill spacing (15, 10 and 5cm). The yield of grain end straw were significantly influenced by the hill distance in each row. The straw yield was significantly influenced by the number of seedling per hill. The grain and the straw yields significantly higher with 5 cm hill spacing due mainly to higher number of hills and ultimately higher number of total panicles per hectare. Nigersail rice may therefore, be cultivated using 30-60 day old seedlings, 5 cm hill distance in each row and 2 seedlings per hill under late transplanted condition.
