Physiological and morphological traits of maize synthetic populations with high and low content of abscisic acid (ABA). [A short version of master thesis].
1996
Andjelkovic V.
The purpose of this study was to perform genetic analysis of leaf ABA content and other agronomic traits in maize. S1 progenies of two synthetic populations (with high and low capacity for leaf ABA accumulation), developed by crosses of the inbred Polj 17 ("high-ABA") and F2 ("low-ABA") were used. The results show a significant variability, especially for leaf ABA content, in plants of both populations. This confirms that the appropriate material was used for studying effects of accumulation of this hormone on other traits. Significant relations between ABA content and grain yield were detected in both populations: increase of ABA accumulation leads to grain yield increase up to a certain level, and afterwards yield decreases.
