Effect of different rabi crops [barley, coriander in Bangladesh] on the emergence and establishment of Bathua (Chenopodium album L.).

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh with five rabi crops grown under normal cultural practices to evaluate their efficiency in suppressing Bathua, Chenopodium album L., a common rabi weed of the area. The results show that: a. barley and coriander were efficient crops to suppress Bathua, with 1.5 and 1.7 competing weeds for each barley and coriander plant, b. pea was the least efficient crop in terms of bathua suppresion. Each pea plant had to compete with at least 10.5 Bathua plants and c. the height and the number of leaves of Bathua were greatly influenced by the kind of crops grown.
