Identification of major species of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp) in Bangladesh.
1989
Mian I.H. | Tsuno K.
An attempt was made to identify the major species of root- knot nematodes (Meloidogyne) common in Bangladesh. Altogether 60 specimens of root-knot nematodes were collected from different districts of the country. Host range test and scanning electron microscopic observation on various characteristic features of the nematodes were performed. Two species namely M. incognita and M. javanica were identified on the basis of characteristic features of their females, males and second-stage larvae recorded under scanning electron microscope. Their identification based on the morphological study was consistent with that done by differential host test. Results of the differential host range test showed that two races of M. incognita viz. Race 1 and 2 are present in Bangladesh.
