This project aims at growing new varieties of grape for selection purposes. Hence, 6 varieties of red grape and 14 varieties of white grape were grown in Chiengmai and Bangkhen. They were raised and trained into an arm kniffen training system. This method is in fact normally used universally for growing wine grape. Results obtained from Chiengmai are not good because of low pH of the soils, resulting in bearing no fruits due to slower growth. However, climatic conditions for growing wine making grape in Chiengmai have a high potency. Thus the King project tried to raise these grapes in new land which has more specific conditions for its growing. It is hoped that the results will be obtained within 2-3 years. At Bangkhen, has been found to have better results, and an arm kniffen training system seems to be suitable for its growth. They produced fruits but low yield. This may be due to its first crop and the yield is not enough to make wine for final conclusion. However, it is expected that within its second and third crops, this conclusion could be done. However, the quality of grape appears to be suitable for wine making. Its acidity is in a range of 0.5-1.2, sugar content 10-14.4 Brix. or 5.3-8.1 Baume., and pH 3.3-3.8 depending on varieties. A result obtained from this study could be a basic information for further development of grape growing in Thailand because the advantages of the training system that vineyard operation can be mechanized and simplified.
