Effects of kind and time of using of nitrogen fertilizers on grain yield and quality at two winter wheat varieties were investigated. Investigations were carried out in the field trail. Soil type was smonitza (vertisol). In the three-year period, the use of KAN (Ca-NH4-nitrate) gave higher grain yield, protein content and seed size in comparision with UREA. The highest yield was obtained by using nitrogen fertilizers in late winter. By using nitrogen fertilizers several times with potassium and phosphorus gave higher percent of large seed and higher protein content. No correlation was found between seed size and protein content. Time and kind of using nitrogen fertilizers had no effect on grain weight of winter wheat varieties.
