Estonian poultry breeders have not until recently had their own feeding standards in relation to our economical conditions and the genetic potential of poultry. In the feeding of poultry the standards of the USA, UK, former Soviet-Union and others have been used until now. On the basis of the data received from trials and practical experience these standards need to be corrected. The trial was carried out on 140 female and 56 male quails in both test and control groups. Laying rates of quails were calculated from the age of 45-days for ten 28-days laying periods. It appeared from the trial: 1) higher Ca-content (4.1 per cent) compared to the lower (2.8 per cent) in the diet of quails leads to higher egg productivity, higher laying intensity, greater number of eggs suitable for hatching, higher total egg weight, higher hatchability of eggs and a thicker egg shell; 2) higher Ca content in the diet of quails in the test group had no influence on average egg weight, viability of quails and fertility of eggs.
