Fruit crops can play an important role in the development of the hills of Nepal. Lumle Agricultural Research Centre (LARC), established in 1968 as a training centre, and later as a research centre in the western hills of Nepal, has included fruit crops in its programme since the beginning. As a result, a number of improved fruit crop technologies have been identified, and subsequently adopted by farmers in the LARC command area, as well as elswehere in Nepal. Such technologies are summarised in this paper. Recent studies (Extension Impact Study and Research Impact Study) indicate that LARC's technologies are successfully used in both the extension and research command areas of LARC. Research is continuing at LARC to solve problems of fruit crops, and it is hoped that research efforts will continue in the future.
