Reed is relatively often infected by Puccinia spp. and only sporadically by Ustilaginales. Among leaf diseases, Deightoniella arundinacea and Stagonospora spp. were identified. However, the above mentioned pathogens are no direct agents causing reed decay. From the infected rhizomes, Fusarium graminearum was isolated in 2 cases /from samples taken at 2 different sites/. This pathogen using one of the most important diseases of a number of field crops /cereals, maize/ is likely to play an important role also in the decay of reed already weakened by other reasons.
