The author summarises the opportunities of prolification of moulds in the grains and details fungistatics that have been succesfully checked so far. In the present trial 55 000 broilers, housed in two buildings, were kept on rations supplemented with sorbic acid. The number of control birds was 110 000 that were housed in 4 stables. The birds were of the same age and all the six houses were stocked on the same day. In comparison with the outstanding performance of the control group the experimental birds produced only slight surplus. In vitro studies failed to demonstrate salmonella-static feature of the sorbic acid.
