This general review covers subjects and issues which include state-of-the-art of pest management in the natural aquatic environment, generalizing effects of pesticides on the fauna for "short-cut predictions", need for research on aquatic ecosystems under stress and the need to explain the fate of pesticides in the aquatic milieu. The paper discusses the present status, problems and directions of aqua-resources development.
