A comparison of the size and structure of maize yield grown for silage in conditions of Gdansk Pomerania and Wielkopolska
2008
Michalski, T. | Bielinski, S.
The reactions of maize growth for silage to environmental conditions were studied in 1996-98 realizing field experiments in comparable soil conditions in two localities: Owidz/Zelgoszcz and Swadzin-near Poznan. The efficiency and structure of the yield of five maize cultivars were determined. Habitat conditions differentiated the content of fry matter and the yield size. Maize growth in the conditions of Pomerania was harvested when the mean d. m. content was 28,7 percent i.e. when it contained by 3,3 percent less d. m. than the maize in Swadzim. Early cultivars in both localities yielded 5-10 percent less than - Galix cultivar, however, they had on average 5 percent higher number of cobs. All cultivars, in the conditions of northern Poland showed a strong decrease in the yield of stems and leaves (on average 31 percent)
