Trematodes represent a constant concern in the reduction of productivity in sheep in the area of Saranda in Albania. Humidity, temperature and extensive way of breeding provide appropriate conditions for intermediate biological hosts and consequently the infestation of sheep in the area. To view the epidemiological situation of trematodes in sheep during the 4seasons of 2009 were monitored 1720 sheep in 6 villages with approximately the same number of sheep and similar way of breeding. 850 sheep were from 3 villages more than 400m above sea level. 870 other sheep were from the flat area in 3 villages. From each village we collected 50 samples of faces for laboratory control. From the total number of 1720 sheep we collected 300 samples (17.5% of heads) that were analyzed by the method of sedimentation and counted eggs per gram faeces. From laboratory tests the level of intense invasion for Fasciola hepatica expressed in e/p/g (number of eggs per gram of faeces) in sheep was in level from 73.4 (in spring) to 140.2 e/p/g (in winter) and for Pramphistomum spp., intense invasion level was from 224.9 e/p/g in the spring, up to 339.4 e/p/g in the winter. The highest level of infestation from Fasciola hepatica and from Paramphistomum spp. was found in the flocks from the villages in the flat area than those in the hilly mountain area. According to the results above, we can say that the epidemiological situation for paraphistomatosis and fascilosis in sheep in the area of Saranda is endemic type that decreases the production and increases its cost. Based on the analysis of the situation, it is recommended the implementation of correct protocols 2 times per year for the treatment with anthelmintic drugs on the sheep in the area.
