This paper’s goal is to point out to a significance of preserving genetic resources of wheat, as the most important crop, in order to secure the basis for its cultivation in the future. Regarding more dramatically consequences caused by the climate changes, impoverishment of biodiversity of crops and making weed, diseases and pest resistance to agro-chemicals, the base for future generations’ existence lies exactly in preservation of the most expressive genotypes of grown crops the nature had made by itself. The data on wheat germplasm’s number of samples of the biggest gene-banks in the world were collected by desk-research, then the data of the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources as the most significant institution of this type in Europe, as well as the data of the centers in Serbia which deal with collection and preservation of wheat genetic resources. The common conclusion which come out of these data preview is, that all countries, in large, work on making their own bases of germplasm of numerous plants, in this case wheat, in order to provide food security for future generations, due to the changes the whole civilization, and the planet Earth, is passing through. Although the wheat is described as our most important strategic crops, the collections of the wheat’s germplasm in Serbia are not satisfactory. Therefore should make more efforts and assets in making adequate infrastructure, in order to ensure preservation of wheat’s and other grown plants’ gene, as well as those whose utilization is in expansion.
