The paper analyzes the production of milk as one of the most important branches of agriculture, which was and should remain the base of its further development. Paper shows the production results in the period since 2000. by 2010. in the Republic of Serbia, on which the calculation points to the current trends present in cattle, both in number of cattle, and number of cows and pregnant heifers. Milk production in the Republic of Serbia in the last six years was not significantly changed. Specifically, total volume of produced milk was higher by 0.5% in 2009. compared to 2000. However, total milk production recorded a mild growth to 2005. when it reached the amount of 1,602 million liters, which is 2.3% more than in 2000. Since 2006. there has been a fall, so for example, in 2009. compared to 2005. declined by 5.5%. Achieved milk yield per cow since 2005. the growing, so we have that in 2008. reached the highest value of 2731 liters, which is explained as a genetic improvement in milk traits, which is achieved by using progeny-tested bulls for milk and an increased volume of artificial insemination of cows and heifers. Average milk production for the reference period was 1,566.4 million liters, while the average milk yield per cow 2458.5 liters which is less than the world average about 18%, as compared to the European average, is less by 50%. The entire decade of early 2000. to date is characterized by a reduction in the number of cows and heifers and stagnation in the production of cow milk.
