The involvement of the public has not been so far adequately concerned in the environment protection field. The content of this paper is aimed at researching the ecological awareness on the example of Nature monument Banjicka suma (Banjicka forest). According to the concept of sustainable development, it is necessary to direct people towards gaining public awareness of the environment protection. It is believed that, once people have gained sufficient knowledge on ecological issues, they might help in solving the problems.
