The studies were carried out in 2009-2010. The raw material was harvested from five natural sites in the area of Mazovian province. The growth of plants, the number and the length of main shoots and the number of branches were evaluated. The seeds from above-mentioned sites were used in the following year to establish plantation of common knotgrass. The experiment was performed on the experimental field of the Department of Vegetable and Medicinal Plants. The weight of fresh and air-dry herb also was determined. In the raw material from natural sites and from the cultivation the content of flavonoids, and polyphenolic acids and their composition, as well as tannins content were determined. It was stated that the herb collected from the cultivated plants contained more tannins (average 1.10%), flavonoids (average 2.20%) and polyphenolic acids (1.06%) than the raw material collected from natural sites (respectively 0.99%, 2.10%, and 0.84%). The composition of polyphenolic acids in the herb coming from natural sites and from the cultivation was similar.
