Total mercury concentrations were determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) in samples of caps, stalks and of whole fruiting bodies of 20 species edible and 5 species non-edible mushrooms and in underlying soil substrate collected from a historical area of cinnabar mining near Malachov during august-november 2008. Lepista nuda accumulated mercury extremely. There were no obvious simple positive relationship between the contents of the observed metals in fruiting bodies and the contents of total metals in the soil organic layer. Bioconcentration factors (BCF: concentrations in mushroom/concentration in soil) of total mercury were between 0,03 (Russula aeruginea) - 32,5 (Lepista nuda) for caps and for stalks. Mercury content in most fruiting bodies was above the regulatory limit (O, 25 mg/kg).
