This is a Final Report on Contract N00014-90-J-1423, which was our participation in ERICA (the Experiment on Rapidly Intensifying Cyclones over the Atlantic). The goal of the Experiment on Rapidly Intensifying Cyclones over the Atlantic (ERICA) field study was to obtain new understanding of the physical mechanisms and processes that account for the wintertime phenomenon of explosively developing extratropical cyclones over the North Atlantic Ocean. The intensive field program ran from 1 December 1988 to 28 February 1989, focusing on a region north of Cape Hatteras to beyond New Foundland, east of Cape Cod, and south of Nova Scotia.
