Afficher plus [+] Moins [-]Providing environmental support for Navy operations requires special attention to the marine boundary layer. Accurate meteorological nowcasts and forecasts play a key role in weapons system support, aircraft operations, and optimum-track ship routing. Furthermore, surface wind stresses and heat fluxes from the atmospheric model are used to drive ocean thermodynamic and hydrodynamic models (Clancy, 1987). Through these coupled air/ocean systems, the atmosphere indirectly plays a role in search and rescue missions and submarine operations.
