The intent of this project was to test and evaluate a new data collection concept; that of utilizing a "store and forward" messagesystem in a low earth orbiting satellite, and to determine its suitabilty for oceanographic data telemetry. This new generation ofsatellites, dubbed "MicroSats" because of their small size (a 9 in. cube), was developed by the Amateur Radio SatelliteCorporation (AMSAT) to complement the existing HF and VHG terrestral Packet data switching networks.
