Afficher plus [+] Moins [-]The paper defines and discusses both elements of the 3-M System initialed by the Chief of Naval Operations in March 1963, i.e, the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and The Maintenance Data Collection System (MDCS) from a historical, current and future viewpoint. The PMS is a realistic minimum planned maintenance program which has proven to be a very effective management tool used to schedule, monitor, and manage maintenance. The Work Study technique used to develop planned maintenance requirements as well as the software and hardware associated with the System is discussed. The MDCS concept is discussed in considerable detail. It will be fleetwide superseding all other maintenance reports by January 1967. MDCS has been extended to tenders and is scheduled to be extended to shipyards. The products of the 3-M System has been used to a limited degree and will be used more extensively as a vital input to equipment design, maintainability, reliability, logistic and acquistion as well as personnel requirements and maintenance standards.
