It was studied the response of nine Bulgarian pepper varieties to the agent of verticillium wilt Verticillium dahliae Kleb. during the period 2004 – 2006. The study was carried out on an artificial infection background verticillium plot. The experiment was set in the this area on alluvial meadow soil type by block method in three replications 5 plants in each replication. The disease was assessed using an empiric evaluation scale of five classes and its severity was calculated by McKinneys index. The highest index of infestation for the studied period was established in Pepper variety Byal kalinkov 46.92%, followed by Kapia 1300. The lowest index of infestation average from the three years was recorded in variety Maritsa 22.15%, followed by Kurtovska kapia 1619 and Sofiiska kapia. In the three years of study these varieties combine comparatively the lowest index of infestation and coefficient of variation of the index and therefore they could be used as sources of resistance in the breeding programmes.
