The goal of this paper is twofold: to summarize the multidisciplinary knowledge for management and preservation of biodiversity in Europe and Bulgaria; and to shed light on the opportunity to assess the economical and technical aspects, institutional framework, ecological, social and cultural interests in this context. The general research questions are towards: the relationship between the agricultural sector and biodiversity; the models of demand and supply; economic value of biodiversity; institutional background and social trends. A new methodological approach is proposed, which encompasses the methods of expert opinion, econometric methods and assessment of different institutional factors.
