In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there was analysed combined action of low positive temperatures (+4 deg C) and excessive moisture content on the content of ascorbate, glutathione, carotenoids and alpha- tocopherol. In course of the study there used green seedlings of barley (Hordeum vulgare). As a result of the study it was shown that reduced ascorbate as well as glutathione levels increased during the first 24 hours of low temperature and flooding combined action, the effect being mainly determined by low temperature stress. Prolonged influence (3 days) of low temperature and flooding caused reducing in content of antioxidants in question of demonstrating plant adaptation to action of stressors. It was also revealed that alpha-tocopherol supply rose as compared with control plants during the first 24 hours of stress factors action, carotenoid content being unchanged, with alpha-tocopherol decreasing below control level under prolonged stress and during recovery. The data obtained suggest tocopherol active consumption as well as its important role in adaptation to stress and in process of recovery.
